PatternsEarly, bass push shallow around the grass. By midday they slide to timber and brush in the creek arms. Toward evening they set up on points and drop-offs. Cloud cover keeps them shallow longer.
RetrievesThe Walker wants rhythmic taps that walk it side to side. The Squarebill wants a steady crank so it dives and thumps. The Texas Worm wants a hop, then a pause while it sinks back to the bottom.
Reading waterSwirls on the surface are feeding fish. In clear, shallow water you can see their shadows. Racing through the shallows scares them, and so does a cast that lands right on top of them.
The fightKeep the tension needle out of the grey and the red. Slack line lets the fish throw the hook, especially when it jumps. Holding the needle in the red for 1.5 seconds snaps the line. Ease off when it runs, reel when it swims at you, and keep it out of the timber.
Prototype rulesThe day ends at 8:00 PM, but a fish already on the line gets finished first. Fish still in the livewell sell at the horn, and a tow back from the lake costs $5. The livewell holds five; a bigger fish replaces the smallest. Progress saves in this browser at the marina and at day end.
